March 2022 book haul

Hiya everyone

So the other day I went to one of my favorite places. Waterstones. I love being in there and I did spend a lot of time there. I had a nice cup of tea there too while being amazed by the books that I had picked. I want to read them all right this second but I can't decide which one to start with.

Anyway here is what I got:

The Witcher Sword of destiny by Andrzaj Sapkowski

Okay I know that this is on Netflix now and I do want to watch it but when I saw the book I knew I would have to read it too. But even if it was not a show I would still would want to read this book as it does sound like something that I would pick up anyway.

If you do not know in this story the Witcher's legendary powers and lifelong traininig make him a perfect killer. He is revered and hated as he hunts demons that plague humanity. However, not all monsters are evil and the world is not fair and good.

It very much reminds me of the shows Buffy the vampire slayer and Supernatural which I so love. I mean I really love that show that I am thinking about getting a tattoo because of it. I am praying that this book is on similar lines as that, because if it is I will soon buy every single book.

House of Hollow by Krystal Sutherland

In this story we follow the Hollow sisters ever since they disappeared as children for a month and came back with no memory. Strange, dark and dangerous things seem to follow them around. When the eldest Grey once again goes missing her other sisters Iris and Vivi are left to figure out what happened all those years ago to find their sister now. But they are not the only ones looking for Grey.

Mystery, family and supernatural who would not be interested in this book. I am a little concerned about how thin the book is, so I am worried that it is  going to be fast paced or rushed especially at the end. I am hoping that I am wrong but we will see.

If this gets out by Sophie Gonzales and Cale Dietrich

In this story we follow Ruben and Zack who are two members of Saturday, one of the world's biggest boy bands. In front of the camera they are teen heartthrobs and backstage they are best friends. But management's pressure on Ruben to stay in the closet which of course is taking its toll. His only out let is Zach as he is the only one he can confined in.

During a whirlwind tour of Europe they rely on each other more and more to the point where friendship ends and romance stats. But if it gets out will their fans give them the support they need? How will they hold tight to each other if their whole world is coming apart?

This caught my attention as it highlight some of the issues with people in the LGBTQ+ community coming out and how that will be received. Also, the pressure of being a specific way in order to succeed in life even if means hiding who you are. That there is still a lot of prejudice within society about people coming out even more so for celebrities.

I think that this is a book that will make me cry but also be very relatable too. Also, showing the struggle and maybe even dangers for people who do come out of the closet.

Poison study by Maria V. Snyder

In this story we follow Yelena Zaltana's and in the territory of Ixia control is maintained through the Code of Behaviour forbidding the practice of magic. Yelena is imprisoned for murder which the punishment is death, unless she accepts the position of the Commander of Ixia's food tester. She will have to risk the daily threat of being poisoned.

In a world where magic equals death and freedom is for the lucky few, the battle for Yelena's life has just begun.

This story reminded me of the TV show Merlin which had me curious. I did enjoy the show so I am hoping that I will enjoy this series too. I am curious about the magic that will be through the book and how the main character will discover and control it.

The magician's guild by Trudi Canavan

In this story we follow Sonea who lives in Imardin and each year the magicians walk through the city within a protective bubble and purge the city of undesirables. Of course no one is happy about that and hate the magicians so they through things at them as they walk. Until one day a rock manages to get through and hit one of them, this has never happened before. Chaos about what has happened but for the magicians it is their worst nightmare. A untrained magician outside their rank with such raw power lose in the city.

I can see this book being very political as it does sound like a struggle of power. I think that I may have ready this book before but did not finish as I think I was too young for it. So I am interested to see what I think about it now that I am older.

Anyway, that is my little haul I do want to read all of these books this year. Of course though anyone who is a bookworm will know that does not always happen. It is fair easier to buy than to read. There are just so many.
